The VERIPAN INNOVATION SYSTEM (VIS) systematically integrates digitised know-how, production and quality knowledge, customer and market information, and practical product development expertise. VERIPAN’s innovation capability is based on the systematic interaction of four components:
1. SQL-based Fermentation Intelligence Platform (FIP™)
The FIP™ consolidates the knowledge and experience VERIPAN has built up over more than 30 years. It is VERIPAN’s central knowledge database and contains:
- More than 3,500 master recipes to produce Functional Ingredients (FI)
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for their manufacture
- The technological, raw material and upcycling know-how documented in the recipes and SOPs
- Process technologies
This converts VERIPAN’s accumulated technological experience into documented, reusable production recipes and processes.
The FIP™ is based on three interconnected areas of knowledge:
Technological know-how
VERIPAN has process engineering expertise in the following areas:
- Fermentation, particularly Solid-State Fermentation (SSF)
- Extrusion
- Drying, roasting and milling
- Micro-encapsulation
- Homogenisation and pasteurisation
Raw material know-how
Knowledge of the properties, processing and functional applications of various raw materials, particularly:
- Plant-based side streams
- Microorganisms such as lactobacilli and yeast
- Enzymes
Upcycling know-how
We unlock the potential of plant-based side streams by upgrading them into valuable resources for Functional Ingredients. Our experience includes:
- Cereal processing streams: wheat bran and wheat germ
- Pseudocereals and pulses: buckwheat and fava bean starch
- Brewing and fermentation streams: brewer’s spent grain (BSG)
We combine this upcycling expertise with our technological and raw material know-how to develop recipes and standardised production processes for Functional Ingredients.
2. SQL-Based Production and Quality Assurance (PQ) Database
The PQ database covers the production-related layer and contains:
- Product specifications
- Production recipes
- SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
- Quality management
It serves as the interface between the Bakery Innovation Center and external contract manufacturers. The PQ database contains the information required for the specific production run and its quality assurance.
Through documented production recipes, specifications and quality management information, the PQ database supports the transfer into production.

3. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
Since 2005, our project-based CRM system has systematically documented all customer and supplier relationships. It supports our direct customer strategy and ensures a high level of transparency and continuity independent of individual employees.
4. Bakery Innovation Center (BIC) – Plug-and-Run concept
The Bakery Innovation Center (BIC) is an integral part of the FIP™. It translates VERIPAN’s technological know-how into customer-specific applications, bringing together innovation, co-creation and practical validation for industrial use.
Through its Plug-and-Run concept, VERIPAN gives customers and partners a hands-on environment to develop and test new product ideas, then prepare validated solutions for industrial production.
